Iran, Oman Hold Joint Naval Drills

The Iranian and Omani navies have held a joint naval exercise in the territorial waters of Iran in the Strait of Hormuz and the Sea of Oman.

The aim behind the joint exercise was to improve bilateral interactions, implementation of various training programs at sea, exchange of experiences and improving the efficiency of staff, Mehr, an Iranian news agency reported.

The joint rescue drill exercise, which took place on Thursday morning, was held after the two sides reached an agreement in their recent Joint Military Friendship Commissions, according to the outlet.

The exercise was attended by a number of naval units of the Army-Navy of Iran, and naval units from the Navy of the Sultanate of Oman, with the support of helicopters from both sides, it added.

The two neighboring countries have conducted several joint military exercises in the past months aimed at improving bilateral military coordination between the two states.
