Turkish authorities have arrested businessman Samir Handal, a key suspect in the assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moise.
Handal, who is on an Interpol watchlist was detained and at the Istanbul Airport early on Monday after arriving from Jordan.
Handal had been reportedly hiding out in Miami since the assassination before flying out to Turkey.
Turkish authorities have issued the 40-day temporary custody order and placed Handal in Maltepe prison.
Haiti’s government later confirmed Handal’s arrest but has not yet released details on his actual involvement with the assassination.
“I just had a phone conversation with the Turkish Minister, my friend Mevlut Cavusoglu, to thank Turkey for the arrest of Samir Handal, one of the persons of great interest in the investigation into the assassination of the president,” said Haitian Foreign Minister Claude Joseph said on Twitter.
