Fox Entertainment has purchased MarVista Entertainment and its library of over 2,500 hours of content.
Fernando Szew, CEO and founding partner of MarVista, and his team will continue to lead the company and will focus on developing and producing content for Fox’s digital platforms, including ad-supported VOD (AVOD) service Tubi.
MarVista, which specializes in holiday-themed programming, claims to have produced, distributed, and sold 80 films every year across all genres. The acquisition is consistent with Fox Entertainment’s objective of increasing direct-to-consumer operations.
MarVista’s recent third-party titles include Amazon Prime’s upcoming Christmas Is Cancelled, Netflix’s Falling Inn Love, Disney’s Under Wraps; Candy Coated Christmas for Discovery+ and Food Network; #FBF, a young adult film starring Ashley Judd; and Operación Feliz Navidad for HBO Max in Latin America.
Twisted House Sitter, The Deadliest Lie, and the holiday-themed A Chance For Christmas are among the titles that MarVista recently developed and/or distributed for Tubi.
MarVista is Fox Entertainment’s second purchase after acquiring the entertainment platform TMZ and its media properties from WarnerMedia.
Miller and Co., Moelis & Company, and Latham & Watkins LLP LLP represented MarVista in the deal, while Fox was represented by Paul Hastings LLP and Hogan Lovells LLP.
