The “Yellowstone” prequel “1883” has recently broken the Paramount+ record for the most-watched original series ever drawing an additional 4.9 million linear viewers when it ran alongside “Yellowstone” on the Paramount Network cable channel.
“1883” was the biggest new series launch on cable since 2015.
The ViacomCBS-owned streaming platform claimed in a press statement on Tuesday that its debut on Sunday was more than twice the previous record.
“The results of ‘1883’s’ launch are simply spectacular,” Tanya Giles, ViacomCBS Streaming’s chief programming officer, said in a statement on Tuesday. “The Day 1 streaming figures, together with the results of the linear sampling effort and social engagement from our audience, demonstrate the series’ immense promise.” We are excited to continue this incredible journey with our subscribers.”
“1883,” created by Sheridan and produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios, is the prequel to the cable hit “Yellowstone.” It stars Sam Elliott, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Billy Bob Thornton, Isabel May, LaMonica Garrett, Audi Rick, Marc Rissmann, Eric Nelsen, and James Landry Hébert.
“1883” follows the Dutton family as they travel west over the Great Plains into untamed America. It’s a brutal recounting of Western expansion, as well as an in-depth examination of one family escaping poverty to seek a brighter future in America’s promised land, Montana.
On “Yellowstone,” Kevin Costner plays John Dutton. In “1883,” McGraw plays his great-grandfather James.
Sheridan, John Linson, Art Linson, David Glasser, Ron Burkle, and Bob Yari serve as executive producers for “1883.”
