A Moscow court fined Twitter 10 million roubles ($136,173) on Thursday for failing to erase information deemed unlawful by the government.
Russia has lowered Twitter’s speed since March as a punitive measure for messages containing child pornography, drug usage information, or encouragement for youngsters to commit suicide, according to Roskomnadzor, the country’s communications agency.
Twitter denies permitting its platform to be used to encourage unlawful behavior, claiming a zero-tolerance policy for child sexual exploitation and a prohibition on promoting suicide or self-harm.
