Bruce Springsteen Sells Entire Music Catalogue to Sony for $500m

Double Grammy winner Bruce Springsteen has reportedly sold his masters and song publishing rights to Sony Music for $500 million (€442 million).

According to several US publications, the transaction grants Sony ownership of his 20 studio albums, including masterpieces such as the triple-platinum record Born To Run, five-times platinum The River, and 15-times platinum Born In The USA.

Springsteen, a 20-time Grammy winner, earned around $15 million in income last year from his work.

It is the latest in a series of Sony’s catalog purchases that have included the music of David Bowie, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Stevie Nicks, Neil Young, and Carole Bayer Sager in the last year or two.

Warner Music acquired international rights to Bowie’s repertoire in September, while Dylan sold his back catalog of more than 600 songs to Universal Music Group in December last year for a reputed $300 million.

There has been no public notification of the transaction, and officials for Sony and Springsteen did not immediately reply to inquiries.
