Australian Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce tested positive for COVID-19 on Dec. 9 while on an official visit to the United States.
In a statement, Joyce’s office said that he tested positive while in Washington, D.C. after he experienced mild symptoms.
The statement did not specify when and where Joyce is suspected of acquiring the virus disease.
Members of Joyce’s delegation have tested negative, the statement said.
Joyce, who is fully vaccinated against COVID-19, will remain in isolation in the U.S. until further advice.
In an interview with Sky News Australia, Joyce said that he thinks the symptoms were “just starting” and that he doesn’t “feel that bad.”
Earlier this week, Joyce was in London and met with United Kingdom officials, including the UK Justice Secretary Dominic Raab, Australian High Commissioner to the UK George Brandis, and UK Transport Secretary Grant Shapps.
