Karl Nehammer was sworn in as Austrian chancellor just after Austrian People’s Party (ÖVP) party-mates Sebastian Kurz’s withdrawal from politics and chancellor Alexander Schallenberg’s resignation.
Nehammer was sworn in by President Alexander Van der Bellen in Vienna’s Hofburg Palace on Mnday.
Before Nehammer became chancellor he served as interior minister since 2020 under both Schallenberg and Kurz.
Nehammer said last Friday that the OVP had picked him to succeed Kurz as party chief and nominee to head the OVP’s coalition government as Austria’s new chancellor.
