Germany Implements Mandatory Lockdown for Unvaccinated Citizens

Germany announced the closure of clubs in COVID-19 hotspots and has imposed a nationwide lockdown on unvaccinated citizens to contain the fourth wave.

“Culture and leisure nationwide will be open only to those who have been vaccinated or recovered (from Covid),” said Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The new measures would be dubbed 2G and would prevent the unvaccinated from entering restaurants, pubs, cinemas, gyms, cultural events, and non-essential shops.

The unvaccinated are also banned from meetings in public and private spaces and will limit them to their own household and a maximum of two people from another household.

The announcement came two days after incoming chancellor Olaf Scholz agreed to put compulsory vaccination to the German parliament.

Merkel said the compulsory COVID-19 vaccines could be implemented from February 2022.
