China Seeks Japan’s Help to Support Winter Olympics

China has urged Japan to support the Beijing Olympics amid calls for a boycott from Western nations over their alleged human rights violations.

“China fully supported Japan in hosting the Tokyo Olympics. Japan should have basic faith,” said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian.

Recently, both the US, UK, Canada, Lithuania, and Australia expressed plans to boycott China over human rights violations against Uyghur Muslims and the issue regarding Chinese tennis star Peng Shuai.

Last Friday, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida already said that they will consider their own stance on the Beijing Winter Olympics on its own terms.

“Each country has its own position and way of thinking, Japan will consider things from its own perspective,” said Kishida.

There are however no countries yet that have fully declared boycotting the upcoming Winter Olympics.
