Belgium has recorded Europe’s first case of the Nu COVID-19 strain which was first discovered in Botswana and South Africa.
According to the National Reference Laboratory, the patient was identified as an unvaccinated female who came from Egypt, via Turkey while two other possible cases are still being investigated.
“Caution is necessary, but don’t panic,” said health minister Frank Vandenbroucke.
Currently, several countries have already tightened air borders and suspended flights from Africa while there is no information on the lethality of the Nu strain.
The Nu strain has already been detected in Africa and in Asia while there are no reports of the strain in the Americas yet.
