A woman has admitted to trying to hire a hitman on a fake website to kill her ex-husband for $5,000.
Wendy Lynn Wein, 52, faces at least nine years behind bars after pleading guilty to filling out a “service request form” on RentAHitman.com seeking help with “an issue” she had in July 2020.
On Nov. 12, Wein pled guilty to counts of soliciting murder and using a computer to commit a felony. A plea deal puts her minimum sentence at 108 months, and she will discover her fate in January.
According to Michigan State Police, Wein contacted the fake website that purports to “fix problems” and stated that her ex-husband was her intended target. The site’s proprietor subsequently phoned authorities, expressing worry that the South Rockwood lady wanted her ex-husband dead.
Authorities claimed Wein later met an undercover trooper masquerading as a hitman in a parking area, where she promised him $5,000 to kill her ex and supplied him with cash for travel expenses.
Wein accused her ex-husband, who resided in another state, of being a pedophile and provided the investigator masquerading as a hitman his address as well as where he worked.
Wein appeared to be skeptical of the site’s legitimacy in her initial communication to “Guido” at the site, which claims to have served “hundreds” of clients in over 160 countries and boasts 17,985 “field operatives” in the United States.
