Sri Lankan officials reported that at least six people, including four children, have died after a ferry they were traveling in capsized in Sri Lanka, officials confirmed on Tuesday. In addition to that, another 10 people have gone missing.
According to CEYLON TODAY, the ferry had been transporting around 25 children and teachers to school when the tragedy occurred as they were traveling from Kurinchakeni to the town of Kinnaya along the eastern coast of Sri Lanka,
At least eleven other children have been admitted to hospitals in Kinniya and Trincomalee, the agency added.
Police spokesman Nihal Thalduwa confirmed the incident, saying a total of 14 people, including seven children, have been rescued and taken to a nearby hospital.
Thalduwa said that eight navy teams are continuing to search for missing people while the cause for the capsizing has not been identified yet.
