Comcast Corp’s NBCUniversal is intending to remove much of its material from Walt Disney’s Hulu and make it exclusive to its subscription service, Peacock, citing individuals familiar with the situation.
Big media firms are aggressively investing in the development of streaming services in order to attract a larger audience in a connected world dominated by players such as Netflix, Inc.
According to the WSJ, if NBCUniversal decides to yank its material from Hulu, which may include fan favorites “Saturday Night Live” and “The Voice,” it will be gone by the autumn of 2022.
If NBCUniversal does not use its option to terminate its arrangement with Disney, the material will stay on Hulu until at least 2024.
