The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has adopted a landmark resolution that could ensure President Xi Jin Ping’s third term for life.
Xi is the third Chinese leader to have had a historical resolution adopted during his presidency, after Mao zE Dong and Deng Xiao Ping.
On his third term as party leader, Xi is expected to assume the position next year which is unusual for CCP party leaders who usually just take two terms.
“By pushing through a historical resolution that puts himself at the center of the grand narrative of the Party and modern China, Mr. Xi is demonstrating his power. But the document is also a tool to help him retain this power,” said Adam Ni, editor of China Neican, a newsletter on Chinese current affairs.
