Poland Border Situation Worsens, Several Detained and 3000 Troops Deployed

Poland has deployed 3000 additional troops to the country’s border with Belarus. The move comes in response to attempts by hundreds of Belarusian refugees who are fleeing and attempting to illegally cross the border into poland

“The soldiers of the 1st Podlasie Brigade of the TDF called up immediately, carry out tasks within the framework of the operation #SilneWsparcie,” reported the Polish Territorial Defence Forces.

Polish Defence Minister Mariusz Blaszczak said that the increased troop deployment was a response to the “many attempts to breach the Polish border.”

Polish media reported that at least 200 people tried to get over the border earlier during the day while 60 more tried again after midnight.

Those who tried to break in were all reportedly detained but Polish authorities have not yet released a figure or explained what happened to them.

There were no reported fatalities or injuries, however video circulated by the Belarusian media outlet NEXTA shows a person, who was presumed to be a refugee being carried away on a stretcher.
