Europol Announces REvil Ransomware Associates Arrest in Romania

Europol announced that Romanian authorities have arrested two suspected REvil ransomware associates that were responsible for attacks on US companies.

The arrest was made in cooperation with 17 other countries, Europol, Eurojust, and INTERPOL.

KPN and McAfee Enterprises have also provided assistance in the operations and gave encryption keys.

According to Europol, the two suspects were responsible for more than 5,000 cyberattacks and earned more than half a million Euros from the ransoms.

REvil was suspected to be behind the attacks against Kaseya and meat producer JBS USA.

The arrests in Romania came just after the US DOJ announced it has arrested and charged Yaroslav Vasinskyi, a Ukrainian national and an alleged REvil associate for the ransomware attack on Kaseya.

Last month, the US and other countries have taken REvil’s website down with their own hacking attack.
