Nintendo Says Chip Shortage Impacts Switch Sales

Nintendo Co Ltd of Japan said on Friday that a worldwide chip scarcity, which has led the company to reduce sales projections for its popular Switch tablet, is also affecting hardware development.

The remarks came a day after Nintendo’s president, Shuntaro Furukawa, warned there was no evidence of chip shortages lessening, as the firm reduced its full-year Switch sales prediction.

The Kyoto-based company is largely reliant on its console business at a time when well-funded competitors like Microsoft are pushing subscription and cloud gaming services.

Nintendo declined to comment on next-generation hardware plans on Friday, although corporate slides refer to an “integrated hardware-software future game system.”
