German Authorities Confirm Dead Russian Diplomat at Berlin Embassy Was FSB Agent

The German Foreign Ministry confirmed that the body of a Russian diplomat was found last month outside their embassy in Berlin.

The unnamed 35-year-old diplomat, who is also a second embassy secretary, appeared to have fallen from a window before he was found on October 19.

Both the German police and foreign ministry have not yet released details on the dead Russian diplomat

German officials said that the dead Russian diplomat was a suspected FSB agent.

Bellincat claimed that the dead diplomat was the son of the deputy director of FSB’s Second Service and the head of the FSB’s Directorate for Protection of Constitutional Order, Gen. Alexey Zhalo.

The FSB Second Service has been linked to the murder of Georgian national and former Chechen rebel commander Zelimkhan Khangoshvili, who was killed in Berlin last August 2019 just two months after the dead diplomat took his post.

No autopsy was reportedly conducted on the dead diplomat while his remains have already been repatriated back to Russia.

The Russian embassy has not confirmed or released a statement on the incident.
