Chilean Leftist Presidential Candidate Gabriel Boric Tests Positive for COVID-19

Chilean leftist presidential candidate Gabriel Boric said on Nov. 3 that he tested positive for COVID-19.

Boric made the announcement on social media and said that he immediately contact Seremi de Salud, the health authority dependent on the Ministry of Health, for contact-tracing.

Seremi confirmed Boric’s announcement on Twitter.

Boric’s positive test result came less than three weeks before the South American country votes.

According to pre-election polls, Boric is one of the top runners for the election.

Boric began to feel the symptoms this week. His positive result meant that he would remain in isolation for several more days in accordance to health protocols.

“Let’s take care of ourselves and that no one misses their vaccine,” Boric said on Twitter.

“We will connect to talk about the changes that we will promote together, and once the protocols are met, I will be with you again on the street,” Boric added.
