Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti tested positive for COVID-19 on Nov. 3, his office announced.
According to the statement posted on Twitter, Garcetti, who is fully vaccinated with the Moderna vaccine, was “feeling good and isolating in his hotel room.”
The statement did not provide any further details.
“It’s a real reminder that when you let your guard down, even when you follow everything right…there’s still a chance with breakthroughs, which is why the vaccine is so important,” Garcetti told ABC7 Eyewitness News.
Garcetti is currently attending the COP26 Climate Summit in Glasgow, Scotland with about seven staff members, all of whom tested negative.
Garcetti had been scheduled to return to the U.S. on Nov. 4.
Garcetti, the current chair of C40, a global network of nearly 100 mayors who are looking to confront the climate crisis, was also scheduled on Nov. 3 to moderate a panel discussion on international financing to support city-level climate action.
