United States ‘Alarmed’ by Takeover of Ethiopian Towns by Rebels

United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken tweeted that the US is ‘alarmed’ by reports that the rebel forces of the Tigrayan People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) have occupied the Ethiopian towns of Dessie and Kombolcha.

Secretary Blinken has called for a cessation to military operations and hostility in the region  stating that “continued fighting prolongs the dire humanitarian crisis in northern Ethiopia…”

Thousands of people have died, scores more face food insecurity and famine conditions while millions of people have been displaced by fighting since November 2020.
