Both Saudi Arabia and Lebanon have expelled their Lebanese Ambassadors after the release of footage showing Lebanon’s information minister criticizing the Saudi-led war in Yemen.
The Lebanese ambassadors were told to leave the Kingdom within the next 48 hours while bans on travel and imports were also issued.
“These statements represent a new episode of reprehensible and rejected positions issued by Lebanese officials towards the Kingdom and its policies,” said the Saudi ministry.
According to newly appointed information minister George Kordahi in the released footage, the Yemenis were “defending themselves … against an external aggression.”
Lebanon’s Prime Minister Najib Mikati defended that Kordahi made those comments in an interview before he was appointed and that his statements reflected were his personal opinion only.
“We also appeal brotherly Arab leaders to work and help to overcome this crisis in order to preserve Arab cohesion,” said Mikati.
