Lanzhou China Locks Down as COVID-19 Cases Spike

China has placed Lanzhou’s population of four million under lockdown after six cases were reported.

Lanzhou residents told not to leave home except in emergencies.while tourists sites and entertainment venues were closed off. 

Security and health officials wearing hazmat suits are currently patrolling residential areas while metal barriers were erected to restrict traffic and foot movement. 

Local bus and taxi services were suspended along with more than 70 trains, including the Beijing and Xi’an lines.

The latest outbreaks in China were all linked to the Delta while Lanzhou alone had 39 cases so far. 

More cases are expected to be detected as the Chinese government intensifies testing to ensure that the upcoming Beijing Winter Olympics goes smoothly.
