Two Killed, Three Injured in Mexico Resort Shooting

A shooting at a popular resort in Mexico killed two female foreigners and three others injured on Oct. 20 evening, according to Tulum Mayor Marciano Dzul.

The District Attorney’s Office in the Quintana Roo state said in a statement that the two women killed were from Germany and India while the injured were from Germany and the Netherlands, AFP News reported.

The statement further said that according to initial investigations, the shooting was “an armed clash between criminal groups dedicated to the sale of drugs.”

Dzul told reporters that the victims had no known links to the criminals and appeared to have been caught in the shootout.

“Unfortunately in this case there is collateral damage that affects other people who have nothing to do with it,” Dzul said.

Dzul said that authorities had arrested one of the alleged shooters.

Dzul said on Twitter that he directed the Municipal Police to collaborate with the Attorney General’s Office of Quintana Roo in the investigation.

“Security is my priority. With the coordination of the three levels of government, we will recover the peace we deserve,” Dzul said.
