China Gas Explosion Kills 3, Injures 33

A powerful explosion at a restaurant in the northeastern Chinese city of Shenyang on Thursday morning killed at least three people and injured more than 30.

The blast shattered windows in multiple buildings and sent debris flying, hitting many parked cars.

The restaurant was in a three-story mixed-use building with business establishments below and apartments above.

Videos shared online showed the massive destruction of the three-story building, with debris littered across the area and nearby buildings affected.

Officials suspected a gas leak behind the blast but were still investigating the exact cause.

Local media reported that construction works on the gas pipeline were carried out earlier in the area, and the gas company confirmed that construction work took place the previous night.

Rescuers composed of 25 fire trucks and 110 firefighters brought all injured to the hospital for treatment.

The gas company and the local bureau of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development have reportedly dispatched their personnel to assist with the search and rescue efforts and the ongoing investigation.
