Portuguese Navy Seizes Cocaine worth €200m from Atlantic Yacht

Portuguese international police confiscated 5.2 metric tons of cocaine with an estimated value of 200 million euros ($232 million) on a yacht docked in the Atlantic Ocean.

Authorities who worked with Portuguese navy and air force troops found and confronted the yacht by entering the scene, where they found 183 bales of cocaine. Police arrested three men from the scene and took them to Portugal.

The police said that an international drug-trafficking gang allegedly owned the cocaine and brought it in the region through the Iberian Peninsula.

Police forces from Portugal, Spain, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, and the United Kingdom’s National Crime Agency assisted with the operations. Investigations are underway, and the authorities will release information should there be any development.

Officials said that it was the most tremendous shipment of cocaine in Europe recently, and Portugal’s largest haul for 15 years.
