The primary lawyer of Aung San Suu Kyi, the ousted leader of Myanmar, said on Thursday that he was issued a gag order barring him from talking to the press, diplomats, international organizations, and foreign governments about cases against Suu Kyi and Win Myint.
“My mouth is under 144,” Khin Maung Zaw said on his Facebook post.
The number 144 was a reference to section 144 of the Myanmar criminal procedure code, which restricts public gatherings and imposes curfews.
Justice Minister Thein Oo of the shadow National Unity Government condemned the restrictions against Khin Maung Zaw and said that the Pyinmana Township administrator had overstepped his authority, Myanmar Now reported.
“This is a matter of the court, and it has nothing to do with the township administrator,” Thein Oo said.
Another member of Suu Kyi’s legal team, San Marlar Nyunt, had her right to disclose information restricted by the junta authorities in August.
