Several People Killed in Bow and Arrow Attack in Norway

A man armed with a bow and arrow has killed multiple people and injured several others on Oct. 13 evening in the Norwegian town of Kongsberg, police said.

The police said that they first received reports about a man carrying a bow and arrow in Kongsberg center at 6:13 p.m. local time.

According to Police Inspector Øyvind Aas, the attacker killed at least five people while he “moved to a large area” in Kongsberg center, Norwegian broadcaster NRK reported.

The perpetrator also injured several others, including a civilian police officer, NRK reported.

All those injured in the attack have been taken to the hospital for treatment, police said.

The police have arrested the attacker and have taken him to a police station in the nearby city of Drammen.

The police confirmed that the man acted alone in carrying out the attacks.

The police also said that they are not ruling out that the attack was an act of terrorism, though police noted that it was “too early to say anything about this related to the motivation” because the apprehended attacker has not yet been questioned.

The police received national assistance resources, such as helicopters, bomb squads, and emergency response crews to respond to the incident, NRK reported, and a large police activity still remains in the area.

“We are now working, among other things, to secure clues, and obtain as much information as possible about what has happened,” Aas said, according to the police statement.
