Deposed Myanmar President Claimed Junta Threatened Him to Hand Over Power

Ousted Myanmar president Win Myint has claimed that the Tatmadaw threatened him to resign from his post during the coup.

Win’s lawyer Khin Maung Zaw testified that soldiers entered his client’s room and forced him to announce resignation due to poor health.

“The president turned down their proposal, saying he was in good health. The officers warned him the denial would cause him much harm but the President told them he would rather die than consent,” added Khin.

Khin’s statement was used during Win’s trial for incitement after being in detention since the start of the Myanmar coup.

Khin also said during the trial that Win had no knowledge about the formation of NUG (National Unity Government), CRPH (Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw) and PDF (People’s Defence Force.)
