Severe Tropical Storm Kompasu Kills Nine People in PH

About nine people were killed and 11 others were missing in the Philippines amid heavy rains due to severe tropical storm Kompasu, according to authorities.

Authorities said that heavy rains brought extreme floods ad triggered landslides.

Tropical Storm Catastrophe Kompasu, with persistent gusts of up to 100 kilometers per hour, soaked large swaths of the archipelago nation’s most populous island Luzon on Monday as it raced through the archipelago nation toward the South China Sea.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) Executive Director Ricardo Jalad reported three fatalities were recorded in La Trinidad, Benguet; one in Itogon, Benguet; four in Narra, Palawan; and one in Claveria, Cagayan.

NDRRMC said that the storm Kompasu has since affected 4,528 families or 19,147 individuals in the country.

Meanwhile, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque on Tuesday said that President Rodrigo Duterte is monitoring the government’s disaster response.

He also said that rescue teams were on the scene, while power and water restoration efforts and road cleaning continued.
