Extinction Rebellion Attempts to Blockade Zurich Traffic

Climate activists blocked Zurich streets and called the Swiss government to take necessary measures to address climate change in the country.

The Extinction Rebellion (XR) group marched in the streets, blocking traffic on Zurich’s Uraniastrasse which is adjacent to the central train station, where 200 activists displayed banners saying “We’ll be back tomorrow” and “Homo sapiens faces extinction.”

The group urged people to demonstrate with them via their website and other social media platforms, saying that the move was not an exercise but an emergency. XR said, “Our life depends on the truth being told about the climate catastrophe. We’ll stop when the government takes appropriate action.”

Zurich authorities ordered the activists to leave to clear the way for trams on main business streets.

XR requested the Swiss government to formally tackle the climate catastrophe and form a directive on “climate and ecological justice” for citizens in June, or else activists will be prepared to stage an uprising.
