Capitol Police Investigate Suspicious Vehicle Near Supreme Court, Detain Driver

Officials with the US Capitol Police (USCP) have arrested suspect from a “suspicious vehicle” that was parked in front of the Supreme Court on First Street, NE while the court was in session.

The subject has been identified as, Dale Paul Melvin, 55, of Kimball, Michigan.

On Twitter the Capitol Police confirmed that they detained Melvin after attempting to negotiate with him to exit the vehicle.

The Capitol Police said on Twitter, “We are continuing to  investigate. We will provide more information as soon as we can. 

A news conference is scheduled 11:45 am at the Russell Park stakeout location along Delaware Avenue, NE between Constitution Avenue and C Street, NE.

Streets surrounding the Supreme Court remain closed as authorities investigate.
