The social media outlets Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram have suffed a prolonged internet outage and could not be accessed over the web or smartphone apps.
Other Facebook websites such as Occulus, and Facebook Messenger were also unreachable
According to Downdetector, a website service that tracks internet outages, it has received hundreds of thousands of outage reports for the impacted platforms and websites. from all around the world.
Taking to Twitter, Facebook’s chief technology officer Mike Schroepfer tweeted “sincere apologies” to those affected.
“We are experiencing networking issues and teams are working as fast as possible to debug and restore as fast as possible,” he wrote.
An outage of this scale for such a long time is rare. Disruption in 2019 left Facebook and its other apps mostly inaccessible across the world for more than 14 hours.

As yet there has been no official reason given for the problem. But many experts have suggested a problem or error with Facebook’s DNS or domain name system.
Earlier in the year DNS issues caused a similar 14 hour outage.
