Macron Pledges to Double COVID-19 Vaccine Donations to Poorer Countries

French President Emmanuel Macron said in a video telecast during Paris’ Global Citizens concert that the country will be doubling its vaccine donations to poorer countries.

Macron said that immunization efforts in other continents are too delayed and that they have to act fast, so he pledged that France will pitch in 120 million doses instead of 60 million. The donations totaled more than what was already administered in the country.

Aside from that, the French president said that nations must help in organizing vaccination programs and help UNICEF to hold these campaigns alongside African countries. Macron added that they should ensure to be in a state of mind that is ready to support health care systems.

France would also revert the financial assistance it acquired from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to fund projects intended to boost the economies of African countries,

Macron added, “If all the major powers do the same as France, we will reach 100 billion dollars for Africa.”
