Brazilian Health Minister Tests Positive for COVID-19 in New York

Brazil’s government said that its Health Minister Marcelo Queiroga tested positive for COVID-19 hours after attending the United Nations General Assembly in New York with President Jair Bolsonaro on Tuesday, September 22.

Brazil’s communications ministry confirmed Queiroga’s condition in a statement and said that the minister is doing well. He will be spending his quarantine time in New York for the meantime.

CNN Brazil reported that the minister still tested positive despite saying that he had been wearing a mask in the U.N. building.

The meeting was conducted to promote international investments to reinforce the health industrial complex. Queiroga emphasized the proficiency and safe environment supplied by the country to support vaccination efforts.

Queiroga said, “We contracted more than 550 million vaccines, and here I highlight the technology transfer agreement that already allows us to produce with national Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) Incorporated.”
