Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Party has won the minority government.
As of 2:30 a.m. ET, the Liberal candidates garnered 157 seats, which was identical to the party’s numbers when they were voted in office in 2019.
Trudeau proposed a snap election on August 15 so that Canadians can voice out who should be finishing the country’s fight against COVID-19. He campaigned for child care support, a more combative climate response, and a solution for Canada’s meager housing plans.
Trudeau said in his victory speech that the voters inspired the Parliament to fare on a clear path, and that the government will do whatever it takes to support the country’s wishes to get things back to normal.
“Your members of Parliament of all stripes will have your back in this crisis and beyond. Canadians are able to get around any obstacle and that is exactly what we will continue to do,” said Trudeau.
