China has denied a port visit to the German warship Bayern while it was sailing the South China Sea.
“After a period of reflection, China has decided that it does not want a port visit by the German frigate ‘Bayern’ and we have taken note of that,” said German Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Adebahr.
Bayern left the -port of Wilhelmshaven in Germany last month for a six-month mission to the South China Sea “to show support for Berlin’s allies in the region.”
China has not explained why they denied the port visit or whether they considered Germany to be hostile.
“China attaches great importance to the development of an all-round strategic partnership between China and Germany, including cooperation between the two militaries,” claimed China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, Zhao Lijian.
