Taliban Claims Panjishir Vicory

The Taliban claimed that they have taken control of the Panjishjr region, the last stronghold of the Afghan Resistance Front after days of heavy fighting.

“With this victory, our country is completely taken out of the quagmire of war,” said Taliban chief spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid.

According to an AP report, Taliban forces managed to overrun eight districts in Panjishir overnight.

The anti-Taliban National Resistance Front (NRF) however claimed that they could still resist the Taliban advance and that all is not lost yet.

The condition or whereabouts NRF leaders Ahmed Massoud and Amrullah Saleh are still unknown while the number of their remaining forces was not disclosed.

The NRF also announced that Fahim Dashty, NRF spokesperson, and General Abdul Wudod Zara were killed during skirmishes last Sunday just after they claimed that they have entrapped the approaching Taliban forces.
