Taliban Expected to Announce New Government

The Taliban is expected to announce a new government in Afghanistan as early as Sept. 3 amid chaos and warnings of imminent economic turmoil.

Two Taliban sources told AFP News that a new administration could be made after afternoon prayers on Sept. 3.

“Consultations are almost finalized on the new government, and the necessary discussions have also been held about the cabinet. The Islamic government that we will announce will be a… model for the people,” Anamullah Samangani, a member of the Taliban’s cultural commission, said, as quoted by Afghan private news channel Tolo News.

Samangani also said that the Taliban leader Mullah Hebatullah Akhundzada will also be the leader of the new government.

“There should be no question on this,” Samangani said, regarding Akhundzada’s position as the new Afghan government leader.

Taliban official Ahmadullah Muttaqi said on Twitter on Sept. 2 that the Ministry of Information and Cultural Affairs has already arranged an upcoming ceremony in the Presidential Palace where the new government will be announced.
