Russia records 18,985 new confirmed COVID-19 cases in just 24 hours.
As of September 2, the Russian anti-coronavirus crisis center tallied 6,956,318 cases after increasing 0.27%.
Before August ended, the number of daily COVID-19 caseloads has been rising steadily.
“Over the past 24 hours in Russia, there have been 17,813 confirmed cases of new coronavirus infection COVID-19 in 85 regions, including 1,366 (7.7%) actively detected without clinical manifestations,” said the center on August 31.
Aside from caseloads, deaths have also been rising in the country with 798 recorded, a 2.66% increase in the provisional lethality of COVID-19.
Russian authorities have already warned of a new wave caused by the Delta COVID-19 variant and attributed the caseloads to the lifting of restrictions.
“Every year, when people return from vacation and children return to school, newly formed gatherings … result in a surge of acute respiratory viral infections in the second 10-day period of September for a variety of epidemiological and virological reasons,” said Anna Popova, the head of Russia’s consumer protection watchdog Rospotrebnadzor.
