Amazon.com Inc has confirmed on Wednesday that it is seeking to hire 55,000 staff globally for corporate jobs and roles in robotics, research, and engineering.
Chief executive Andy Jassy explained that Amazon needed more staff to keep pace with the expansion of its retail, cloud computing, and advertising branches.
“Amazon continues to grow quickly, and relentlessly invent across many areas,” said Jassy in a statement.
Jassy also said that the company’s plan known as Project Kuiper would also require more staff. Project Kuiper is the company’s program to launch satellites into orbit to widen broadband access.
The majority of the positions, around 40,000 roles, will be created in the US with 2,500 positions to be created in the UK and the rest mostly in India, Germany, and Japan.
The recruitment drive will be part of the company’s careers day scheduled on 15 September.
The new recruits would represent a 20% increase in Amazon’s tech and corporate staff which is currently 275,000 in number globally.
