The Philippines reported 22,366 new COVID-19 cases on Aug. 30, setting a new record for the highest daily cases in the country since the beginning of the pandemic.
The new record increased the nationwide tally to 1,976,202, according to data from the Department of Health (DOH).
The previous highest record stood at 19,441 cases last Aug. 28.
DOH said that two laboratories did not submit their data to the COVID-19 document system on time. Data from these laborites account for about 0.1% of all test samples and 0.1% of all positive cases.
According to a report by Philippine online news website Rappler, the number of daily COVID-19 cases reported this August currently stands at 387,237, which is a two-fold increase from the cases reported in July.
DOH warned that the cases could go higher and reiterated that following public health standards and getting vaccinated are the best defenses against COVID-19.
In addition, DOH encouraged citizens who are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms to undergo earlier consultations and testing to avoid spreading the virus.
DOH also recorded 222 deaths on Aug. 30, bringing the nationwide death toll to 33,330.
