Ex-military officers Call on Austin and Miley to Resign Immediately

A group of about 90 retired generals on Monday called for the resignation of Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Joint Chairman Gen. Mark Milley over hasty withdrawal in Afghanistan.

In an open letter signed by 87 ex-military officers,  the group argued that as principal military advisors to President Joe Biden, Austin and Milley should have recommended against the dangerous withdrawal in Afghanistan in the “strongest possible terms.”

“If they did not do everything within their authority to stop the hasty withdrawal, they should resign,” the letter said.

The signatories also argued that Austin and Milley should still resign “as a matter of conscience and public statement” even if they did try their best in convincing the President against the swift exit from Afghanistan.

The letter from the former military officers, known as the Flag Officers 4 America, came as Joe Biden also had to face his own calls for resignation.

Biden was going to make remarks on Tuesday about the end of the 20-year war in Afghanistan.
