Chinese Government Shuts Down American Chamber of Commerce in Chengdu

Chinese authorities have shut down the American Chamber of Commerce in the southwestern city of Chengdu due to unspecified reasons.

According to the statement from the Chamber that was seen by Reuters, it can “no longer carry out any activities in the name of the American Chamber of Commerce in Southwest China”.

American Chamber of Commerce Chengdu chairman Benjamin Wang said they do not know why they were shut down and that they are still talking with authorities.

China’s Ministry of Civil Affairs (MCA) has not yet commented on the closure of the chamber.

Despite the name, the American Chamber of Commerce Chengdu is not linked to the American Chamber of Commerce in China.
