Spain Ends Afghan Evacuation, All Diplomatic Staff Safe in Dubai

The Spanish government said on Friday, August 27, that Spain ceased evacuation efforts of its personnel from Afghanistan and the last refugees are expected to arrive at the Torrejon military airbase near Madrid.

The government said in a statement that two army planes landed in Dubai early on Friday morning carrying the remaining 81 Spaniards out of Kabul.

Four Portuguese soldiers and three Afghan nationals who have worked with NATO countried boarded the planes.

The statement further read, “These two flights conclude the evacuation of Spanish personnel and Afghan allies and their families.”

Spain relocated 1,898 Afghans who had assisted the western countries in the United Nations or the European Union.
