The Philippines on Aug. 23 reported 18,332 new COVID-19 cases — it’s highest daily tally since the pandemic began.
The new cases bring the nationwide total to 1,857,646.
According to the Department of Health (DOH), three laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 system on time.
“Based on data in the last 14 days, the three non-reporting labs contribute, on average, 0.2% of samples tested and 0.5% of positive individuals,” DOH said, as translated by local media outlets.
DOH also confirmed that 466 of the new cases were of the more contagious Delta variant, which is said to have been the cause of the increase in cases in the Southeast Asian country.
DOH also reported 151 new fatalities, bringing the death tally to 31,961.
The previous highest daily record was at 17,231 reported last Aug. 20.
