Greece said that it would end free testing for unvaccinated people to improve immunization rates and to combat possible new cases of Delta variant infections.
Greek Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias said that free testing will be available for those who were jabbed by COVID-19 vaccines.
Kikilias added, “These measures are not punitive. It is our duty to all those who went through 18 months of the pandemic carefully, those who lost their shops, jobs, and had to work from home to protect themselves.”
Unvaccinated persons will be obliged to test either once or twice a week depending on their vaccination under the country’s new protocols which will be effective on September 13.
Greek authorities said that some six million out of 11 million people in the country already received one or two jabs of a COVID-19 vaccine, but a million more were needed to establish sufficient immunity.
