CIA Director William Burns reportedly conducted a clandestine meeting in Kabul with Taliban leader Abdul Ghani Baradar amid the ongoing mass evacuations of US and NATO citizens and personnel.
An unnamed US official disclosed the meeting but refused to reveal their identity.
Both the CIA and Taliban have not yet confirmed the meeting while there is no information on what was discussed.
Currently, the US is facing an ultimatum to remove all personnel from Afghanistan by August 31.
Biden said during a press conference last Sunday that US troops go beyond the Taliban’s deadline and that the evacuations were “hard and painful” and much could still go wrong.
Taliban spokesman in Qatar, Suhail Shaheen however said that they ruled out any extension beyond Aug. 31 and going so would be going against their agreement with the United States.
