Arellano Felix Cartel Boss Arrested After US Deportation

Mexican federal authorities have arrested Mexican cartel boss Eduardo Arellano Felix, known as “the doctor” after he was handed over by US authorities at a border crossing in Matamoros.

Eduardo, one of the notorious Arellano Felix brothers that lead the Tijuana-based Arellano Felix cartel was released last week from the Allenwood low-security prison in Pennsylvania where he was serving a 15-year sentence for money laundering and conspiracy.

“At 5:15 pm today, at the Brownsville-Matamoros International Bridge, the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR), and the Mexican Army received Eduardo ‘A’, to carry out an arrest warrant against him (…) for his probable responsibility in organized crime, crimes against health and criminal association,” the Attorney General’s Office announced

The US Department of Justice said in 2013 that Eduardo, along with his other siblings were responsible for transporting hundreds of tons of cocaine and marijuana from Mexico and Colombia into the US.

“The three living Arellano Felix brothers, who for decades lived as multi-millionaires while terrorizing the Southwest border, ordering assassinations, and corrupting countless public officials – are now confined to maximum-security prison cells for a very long time. I urge others who aspire to take their place to take note,” said US Attorney Laura Duffy.

Eduardo was arrested in 2008 and extradited to the US in 2012, while his brothers Benjamin and Francisco Javier were arrested earlier.
